CLUBS&SOCIETIES 

Clubs and Societies are possible one of the single most important aspects of a student's life. They are a place of friendship, personal growth, and development: they are a great way to develop one’s character and the skills that will benefit students in school, their career, and in life.

Clubs and Societies give students skills and talents that they are not able to learn or develop through normal level education: skills like commitment, leadership, effective communication and being able to work successfully in a group. It also helps to boost students’ self-esteem and self-confidence.

Community outreach and social visits to infirmaries, hospitals & girl’s/boy’s homes, Inter-clubbing, Beautification projects within the school, Invite resource persons to address club members, Talent searches within clubs, Participation in JCDC and 4H Competitions, Debate/ Quiz competition, Field Trips, Games/ Treasure Hunt Day Fundraiser Activities,     Potluck, Cuisine Days, Social Graces Training, Movie Day, Nutrition/ Welfare/ Education Days and Powerpoint presentation

 

 

Projections /Aims of the Clubs and Societies

 

Debating and  Quiz Club

This club teaches students how to defend themselves using nothing but their brainpower and their ability to speak.  It aids in one becoming a better public speaker and a critical thinker.

 

Junior Achievement Club

This club helps to prepare young people for the real world by showing them how to generate wealth and effectively manage it, how to create jobs that make their communities more robust, and how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace.

 

Red Cross Club

 It is aimed at the development of our youth to improve the lives of vulnerable people by mobilizing the power of humanity and to prevent and alleviate human suffering.

 

 Mathematics Club

 It aids in students developing their creative, explorative, and inventive faculties. It develops critical thinking,  hence, translating theory into practice.

 

 Cadet club / Unit

 Students build character, imparting knowledge, and contribute positively towards progress and prosperity. They learn survival skills and how to conduct themselves in a proper manner.

 

 

Spanish Club

 Students will learn to appreciate the Spanish culture, foster the liking of the subject Spanish, and the speaking of Spanish as a second language.

 

 Sports Club

 Teach students about the composition of the body and enhances the likelihood of students' involvement in sporting activities.  They will learn about exercising techniques and their benefits to the body.

 

 Culture  and Drama Club

 Students will be knowledgeable of the Jamaican culture: food, dress, music…. and will be able to express themselves through music and role-playing. They will enter the JCDC competitions and festivals.

 

 

Key Club

 It is an international student-led organization which provides its members with opportunities to provide service, builds character, and develops leadership.

 

 

4H Club

Students will become knowledgeable about the types, care, and benefits of plants and animals.  They will be active in food preparation, art, and craft, animal rearing, and cultivation where learning becomes a lifelong commitment. 

 

Tourism Action Club

 It is an avenue for forming friendships, cultural expression, skill development, or aiding in a future career.  It gains hands-on experience in travel and the tourism sector.

 

Environment Club

 This club raises awareness and understanding of environmental issues.  It instills a sense of responsibility for the environment and a personal commitment to protect and preserve the environment thus, involving students in a diversity of programmes aimed at promoting environmental consciousness and protecting the environment.

 

Healthy Lifestyle Club

This club tackles unhealthy lifestyle and environmental practices affecting youths. Its aim is to promote a healthy lifestyle among the schools’ population through healthy eating, active living, and the knowledge of caring for the environment.

 

 Book/ Reading/ Writing Club

This club seeks to develop its members holistically by exposing them to a plethora of literature in different genres and in various forms;  thereby,  fostering the appreciation of literature and being motivated to become Authors and Poets in their own rights.  Its aim is to fashion the young minds to think critically, engage in public speaking, enhance comprehension, communication, and writing skills thus, preparing them for the global arena.

 

 Art and Entertainment Club

 This Club enhances the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination in a visual form,  producing works to be appreciated for their beauty or emotional power as well as the action of providing or being provided with amusement or enjoyment. Its mission is to enhance the social, cultural, and educational aspects of the student life while expanding students' knowledge, fosters creativity and building leadership skills.
